A Free Spirit, yet practical and pragmatic lawyer who thinks outside the square! An
adventurer, he worked with Sir Edmund Hillary School and Hospital building in Nepal and
climbed high on Mount Everst with Peter Hillary in 1982. More recently, in 2003, Alex
accompanied Peter to Antartica. In 2005, together with Peter, he climbed Mount
Kilimanjaro, highest peak in Africa, by an enterprising and now forbidden route ! 2007 saw
Peter and Alex guiding 30 Americans from Lhasa in Tibet to Everest North Face base camp
and back on a National Geographic expedition. Who knows where to next ! ?.
Alex is also a sailor with a passion for the ocean on his old ketch "Tahu
Moana". A family man, proud of his 33 year old son who is a professional classical
guitarist, his daughter-in-law Natarani and granddaughter Sofia and his teenage twin
daughters who are budding singers, already performing internationally and studying singing
at University in Sydney.
Marriage and Civil Union celebrant specialising in extraordinary ceremonies embodying
the art of Saubrage (decapitating Champagne bottles with antique sword).
2006 was a "standout"year - appearing in New Zealand's last civil appeal to
the Privy Council before a Baron, a Baroness and three other Law Lords. Although the
appeal was unsuccessful, their Lordships wrote in their judgement complimenting "Mr
Witten-Hannah for the clarity of his submissions and the careful and attractive way in
which he developed them"! |
