THE FRIENDLY AND EFFICIENT PROBLEM SOLVERS

Alex Witten-Hannah - Partner
Over 42 years legal experience since qualifying LLB (Hons) in 1970 both in UK (Cambridge/London) and New Zealand; Auckland City, and since 1982 in Takapuna.

A practical and pragmatic lawyer who thinks outside the square! An adventurer, he worked with Sir Edmund Hillary School and Hospital building in Nepal and climbed high on Mount Everest with Peter Hillary in 1982. More recently, in 2003, Alex accompanied Peter to Antarctica. In 2005, together with Peter, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, highest peak in Africa, by an enterprising and now forbidden route! 2007 saw Peter and Alex guiding 30 Americans from Lhasa in Tibet to Everest North Face base camp and back on a National Geographic expedition. 2011 was Antarctica again and attending the 50th anniversary of Ed Hillary's first school within sight of Mt Everest and next year from Everest Tibet across the Himalaya to Everest Nepal!

Alex is also a sailor with a passion for the ocean on his old ketch "Tahu Moana". A family man, proud of his 37 year old son Sasha who is a professional classical guitarist, his daughter-in-law Natarani and grandchildren Sofia and Theo and his twin daughters Gabriella and Angelina who are accomplished singers, performing internationally and based in Sydney.

Marriage and Civil Union celebrant specialising in extraordinary ceremonies embodying the art of Saubrage (decapitating Champagne bottles with antique sword). (Got married himself to the lovely Anne at the Chateau, Mt Ruapehu in 2011.)

Career highlight was appearing in New Zealand's last civil appeal to the Privy Council before a Baron, a Baroness and three other Law Lords. Although the appeal was unsuccessful, their Lordships wrote in their judgment complimenting "Mr Witten-Hannah for the clarity of his submissions and the careful and attractive way in which he developed them"!
